The Director will support antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives/strategies and serve as advocate and champion in the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive medical school.  The position is responsible for supporting the Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU-SOM) in the administrative oversite for the OEDI, project management, and the implementation of diversity initiatives School-wide.

  1. Master’s degree and 7 years of experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience; Degree concentration in human resource management, business administration, industrial relations, race and ethnic relations, disability studies, higher education, sociology, psychology, or other related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Candidates who are currently completing a master’s degree may be considered for an interview, but degree must be completed by hire date.
  2. Progressive experience in program development in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and working with diverse audiences.
  3. Minimum three years of professional experience in leadership, organizational development and/or organizational administration.
  4. Experience organizing and directing comprehensive programs and collaborating with teams.
  5. Demonstrated experience with data analysis and/or organizational compliance reporting.
  6. Demonstrated success at leading interprofessional teams, working across campus units.
  7. Commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence in education and research.
  8. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  • Earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) or its equivalent in human resource management, business administration, industrial relations, race and ethnic relations, disability studies, higher education, sociology, psychology, or other related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience with or deep knowledge of organizational change, policies, and programs in higher education.
  • Experience in youth and adult education.
  • Experience collaborating with community organizations to develop innovative programs and activities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of rural and urban disparities as well as underserved and disadvantaged community issues upon which educational programs are determined.
  • Demonstrated experience with and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within an academic center.
  • Evidence of strong history of bridge building, mentorship, sponsorship, and understanding of the unique needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups.
